Quoting works by email and conversation rather than a checkout — I prepare each one by hand. These terms explain how that all works, in plain English.
About these terms
These terms cover your use of hawksburytimber.co.uk, and how quoting and sourcing work when you ask me about a job. Hawksbury Timber is run by Shane Fullwood as a sole trader; when these terms say “I”, that’s who they mean.
By using the site, you’re accepting these terms. If you don’t accept them, that’s fine — please don’t use the site, and get in touch directly instead if you wanted to ask about a job.
The writing on this site
The guides, species notes, calculators and project ideas here are general guidance based on my own practical experience in the timber trade. They are not professional advice about your specific project.
That matters most with anything structural. If you’re building something where getting it wrong could hurt someone or bring down a structure, get a qualified engineer or building professional to check it. I’m a man who works with timber and writes down what he’s learned — I’m not your structural engineer.
On accuracy: I write carefully and correct things when I find them wrong, but I can’t promise every page is free of error, and timber itself varies. Treat what you read here as a well-informed starting point, not a specification.
On calculators: they produce estimates to help you plan, not guarantees about a particular board. Every piece of timber is different — that’s most of what the guides are about.

You’re welcome to read it, use it to inform your own work, and link to it. You’re not welcome to copy it wholesale, republish it as your own, feed it into a content farm, or sell it on. If you’d like to reproduce something, ask me — I’m usually happy to say yes, and it’s a short conversation.
Quoting and sourcing
Quotes are prepared individually. I don’t have a price list, because the right answer depends on your job: the species, the sizes, what’s actually gettable, and what you’re trying to achieve. Tell me about the job and I’ll work it out and come back to you.
Nothing is charged on this site. There’s a basket, but there is no payment step and no checkout. You cannot pay me through this website, and no money changes hands as a result of using it. The basket is a note-taking tool.
No order is formed by using the site. If we go ahead with something, the arrangement is made between us directly, off the site — by email, phone or conversation — and the details we agree there are what apply. Quotes are valid for 30 days, because timber availability and prices move.
VAT: I’m not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added to quotes.
I don’t take on every job. I supply any quantity to anyone — a few boards or a pallet load. What I am is picky: I take on the jobs I can do properly, and if yours isn’t one of them, I’ll tell you so rather than take it on.
Using the site
Please use the site as it’s meant to be used: read it, use it to work out what you need, and get in touch. Don’t try to break it, don’t try to get into parts of it that aren’t yours, don’t scrape it wholesale, and don’t use it to do anything unlawful. I’m one person on a lorry most of the day, and I’d rather spend my time on the timber than on cleaning up after that.

Where I link out, it’s because it’s useful — not an endorsement of everything on the other end, and not something I control. Their terms and their privacy practices are theirs.
Limits on my responsibility
I’m responsible for what I do and for what I’ve written. I’m not responsible for things outside that.
What this means in practice: the guidance here reflects my experience, and you decide how to use it — if you build something from a project idea on this site, the building is yours. If you use a calculator, the estimate is a starting point and the board in your hand is the truth. I can’t be responsible for a job going wrong where the thing you relied on was general guidance rather than a specification, or where the timber wasn’t bought from me.
What it doesn’t mean: this isn’t me dodging responsibility for my own work. If I source timber for you and there’s a problem with it, that’s between us and I’ll deal with it — and nothing in these terms is meant to exclude any right you have under law, including your statutory rights. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes to these terms
I’ll update this page if the way I work changes, and the date below will change with it. Terms were last updated on 21 September 2026.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
If you’re a consumer, you keep the protections of the law of the country you live in — nothing here takes those away.
